Today's News-Herald, over their website, (sort of) discusses the process that will be used to fill the OH-98 House of Representatives seat that State Senator Tim Grendell will NOT fill.

The State Central Committee admonished Tim Grendell via a meaningless resolution: if you want to waste some time read here.
Hmmmmm.
Lake County Republican Party Chairman Dale Fellows said that what Tim Grendell is doing "against the will of the voters," and "It's not consistent with the values of the party...."
Question, Mr. Fellows: is it against the values of the Party for Trustee Chris Galloway to attend your Executive Committee Meetings while being paid by the Ohio Democrat Party to work on campaigns in Lake County? Is it against the values of the State Central Committee to pay Trustee Galloway's company to do political work while also working for the Ohio Democrat Party?
Where is the feigned outrage over Trustee Galloway's work for the Ohio Democrat Party...while being a "Republican" elected official...and running nasty, divisive campaigns in Lake County...and attending your party's executive committee meetings?
The article states that Fellows went on to say that "The State Party needs to hold the elected officials acceptable for their actions...."
You are correct on that one Mr. Fellows, but you need to extend that logic to your local party.

OH-18: Taxn' Trustee Galloway's Chance Just Got a Little Worse
Sen. Grendell Smacks Down Taxn' Trustee Galloway; this article describes the memorandum written by Grendell to the State Senate Republican Caucus.

Taxn' Trustee Chris Galloway, as we've noted, wants to be the person to get appointed to the OH-18 Senate Seat vacated by Sen. Tim Grendell if he were take the OH-98 House seat.
In Grendell;s own words he wants a "real fiscally conservative, family values republican" to replace him. That's Sen. Grendell's words precisely.
So, that means that he considers the applicants: Bob Gardner, David Fiebig, and Jaimie Callender to be less than Conservative...or, "RINO's" as it is referred to. Grendell also MUST believe that Taxn' Trustee Galloway is a RINO too...c'mon, Galloway has been proven to work for democrats (e.g. paid Ohio Democrat Party Consultant).

Cleveland Plain Liar Piles On: OH-18 and The Grendell's
Today the editorial board of the Cleveland Plain Liar weighed in on the OH-18 to OH-98...wait a second...Grendell switch.
The Plain Liar says Grendell should "pick a seat and butt out."
Wait a second. Doesn't the Cleveland Plain Liar mettle in everything? Why does the Cleveland Plain Liar want to limit free political speech?
The Cleveland Plain Liar knows the Grendells can whatever they want, in terms of politics and elections, in Geauga County; that's why the Plain Liar didn't bemoan the voters here.

The News-Herald, always in last place, when it comes to reporting anything important or interesting piled on today in the "race" to replace Tim Grendell as the OH-18 State Senator.
The News-Herald must of gotten wind that Tim Grendell may not take the OH-98 House seat he won, which would cause the OH-18 vacancy...we've spent enough time on the causes already.

Grendell and Schneider?
According to the News-Herald, there was a censure of State Sen. Tim Grendell by the Lake County Republican Party. Read the details here.
According to the linked article State Sen. Tim Grendell issued a "supportive statement" about then candidate Mark Schneider.
Could this lend credence to rumors that Grendell "supported" Schneider?
But, why oh why?
Commisioner Ray Sines was quoted as saying that he did not think the censure was a great idea. This comes as no surprise given many of Sines' stances on many issues.

Mark Schneider introduced H.B. 427 which would be used to funnel money from the families of deceased class action law suit defendants to local charities.
It's funny that the very well compensated Executive Director of the United Way of Lake County, Deborah Foley, traveled to Columbus to speak in support of the bill. Funny? Yes. It's not surprising. Foley, sister of Lake County Metropark Board of Commissioner President Ellen Foley Kessler, needs to raise a lot of money to pay the agencies expenses. These expenses include her $117, 000 base salary.
What's even more interesting about this story is that State Sen Tim Grendell sponsored a companion bill, S.B. 157 in the Ohio Senate.

Political Expression: Geauga Constitutional Council
As any of the readers of this site can tell WE believe that freedom of speech is important. Individuals, groups, companies, etc. need to be able to express themselves freely without fear of repercussion.
This Country was founded on a sharp political dialogue. In fact, anonymous pamphleteering, and publication of thought in news papers was an important part in the birth of this Country's founding documents. The Federalist Papers, for instance, were written anonymously. It took careful study and many decades to figure out who wrote the Federalist Papers.
Anyhow, over the week-end the News-Herald ran a story about the Geauga Constitutional Council. The article details how the group says it is dedicated to educating citizens about constitutional rights and personal responsibility via publications, ads, websites, etc. according to founder/director Ed Corsi. However, the Geauga County Board of Elections has a different view. According to Ed Ryder, a Geauga County Board of Elections Member, the group seeks to influence elections and is doing so in an illegal fashion. Specifically, the group has allegedly been engaged in electioneering without properly disclosing details about its finances, organization, etc.
Visit the Geauga Consitutional Council's website here. The group clearly endorses candidates. Take a look at the group's endorsements here. At the top of the link discussing the May 2010 primary the group very, very strongly endorses Judge Eugene Lucci. The group's website says with regard to the May 2010 primary between Judge Lucci and Judge O'toole
Not to bore you guys, but the Geauga Constitutional Council wrote at least 11 items that seek to influence the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals Race.
Moving along...The Geauga Constitutional Council made endorsements in Lake County for candidate Ron Young as well and many more in Geauga County. The group seem infatuated with State Sen. Tim Grendell and his quest to win OH-98's House Seat.
Please understand we cherish free speech, especially the ability to comment on news and politics.
If this group does in fact get found to be violating election law we wonder how it could influence the elections this fall. How could it affect Judge Lucci's race this fall given that he said to be a long time close and personal friend of Ed Corsi, and has spoken at this group's events? We think it would affect Tim Grendell less given how entrenched he is in Geauga County.
Some serious charges are being bandied about regarding Ed Corsi as well. Stay Tuned.

It's a no brainer...Judge Lucci is the one.Take a look at this link, it goes on to engage in name calling about Judge O'toole referring to her as a liar (via comparison to Pinocchio) and "cry baby." These are the words of the the author of the Geauga Constitutional Council's website. Not ours.

OH-18: Who will (and won't) replace Tim Grendell this Fall
Sen. Tim Grendell (R, OH-18) is going to win May 4th's primary for the 98th House District Seat. Sen. Grendell will go onto to STOMP whatever "also ran" opposition that the Democrats sacrifice this fall.
That's easy enough.
Who will the Republican Senate Caucus replace Sen. Grendell to fill the rest of the term for which Grendel is currently serving?
Any ideas?
Let's digress for a moment.
We know what Democrats will seek to face the appointed repbulican: 1)"Liberal" Loraine Fende, AND 2)Dan "feed at the trough" Troy. We all know Loraine is terrible campaigner, even in her stomping grounds of Western Lake County. Also, Fende is unelectable in Geauga County; she is a loser outside of Western Lake County. Dan Troy will be the Democrats OH-18 Senate candidate.
Now, back to who the Senate Republican caucus will nominate.
Our guess? Judge Dianne Grendell.

Food for Thought: Should Everyone Continue to Subsidize Utility Costs for a Small Group?
We have talked a lot about Utility Companies, the Public Utilities Commission (PUCO), the politics of it to a lesser extent, and the controversies that have cropped up around these issues.
Sen. Tim Grendell recently sued on behalf of North East Ohio Residents claiming the Electric Utilities are breaching contract by upping the rates of all-electric customers. Both the PUCO and Electric Utility admits that everyone else subsidizes the artificially low rats of all-electric users, those using electric furnaces more specifically.
Its also good to see that Rep. Lorraine Fende has finally showed her face to her constituents; Rep. Fende hosted a town-hall forum on utilities.
QUESTION: Should everyone else artificially keep the approximately 100, 000 customers who use electric heat electric rates low?
QUESTION: Did Sen. Grendell think about the rest of us, or is this just a bombastic attempt to grab headlines?
The real problem hear is that BOTH Sen. Grendell and Rep. Fende have sat idly by over the past year as WE, your faithful blog, started poitning these issues out. Furthermore, both Rep. Fende AND Sen. Grendell were in the State Legislature when Gov. Strickland's so-called energy bill, S.B. 221.
S.B. 221 mandated that Utilities reduce production, which, you guessed it! decreased revenue!
Who do you think is and is going to make up for lost revenue? Enter the failed light bulb distribution program from the fall.

Fende and Grendell Catch On: Someone is Finally Looking at the Plight of Utility Consumers in Ohio
It looks like Loraine Fende and Tim Grendell have been paying attention to us and has decided to take some action on issues we have been discussing for months. Loraine Fende will have a town hall meeting to discuss electrical rates. Tim Grendell filed a class action lawsuit in Geauga County common Pleas Court regarding the rise in electric rates for some people.
We have been discussing these issues for months, see here, for instance.

Everytime we try to deal with substantiave issues (e.g. utilitiy companies, the Public Utilities Commission (PUCO), etc.) a local City Council OR the Board of Commissioners OR Finance District OR a County Board try to or publicly announce tax increases or that they are thinking about tax increases.
Then, there are political machinations about who will be which party's candidate for what.
The Democrats slate card in Lake County is set, and has been: Dan Troy is political force, like-it-or-not, and the Democrats control hold OH-62 and OH-62 House seats. Therefore, all has been quiet about which Democrat will run. Today, Dave Fiebig announced his candidacy, against Mike Zuren, for the Republican Party nomination for the OH-62 seat.
That has left our Republican friends.

Grendell and the Lottery
Ohio's blogs have swirled with the rumor that Judge Dianne Grendell won the lottery. Speculation was that one of the Grendell's would run for an even higher office...perhaps Senator Grendell would run for AG...or Judge Grendell for Ohio Surpreme Court.
I will end the speculation: Dianne Grendell won $250, 000 on September. She will get around $150, 000 after taxes. They are not going to blow that nice chunk of cash on a campaign.
This means Senator Grendell will go back to trying to abandon us for the OH-98 House Seat.

OH-House 98th District Confirmed: Not going to Tim Grendell!
The News-Herald is a couple of weeks behind on a story your faithful blog told you a while ago. The House Seat for the 98th House District will NOT be given to Tim Grendell---not matter how much Grendell begs!
Grendell did this to himself. Grendell has ticked off so many people the House Republican Caucus is not appointing him. Instead, Richard Hollingtion, for State Rep., will be appointed. Previsouly we told you that Hollington would only be a place holder...now...Rep. Batchelder, the House Caucus Chairman said: "Whether or not Dick runs for the seat or serves as interim is up to him."

UPDATE (YOU HEARD IT HEAR FIRST!): Not so fast Tim Grendell! --Someone else is getting appointed!
Yesterday we IT HAS BEEN CONFIRMED THAT Tim Grendell is trying to WILL abandon Lake County. Sen. Grendell wants the House Seat for the 98th District being vacating by carpet bagger Matt Dolan. Grendell would leave the 18th district Senate Seat because of term limits in two years.
LAST WEEK Geuaga County's Executive Committee met and heard from the following candidates that all want that 98th District house seat:
1) Tim Grendell, as mentioned,
2) Matt Lynch, Bainbridge Township Trustee (click to see his website, also Matt Lynch is former Euclid Mayor Dave Lynch's brother),
3) Kristina Port, Russel Township Trustee, and
4) some no name.
Here is the skinny: the Ohio Senate Caucus does not want to spend the $$$$$ defend a Senate Seat vacated my Tim Grendell AND Bill Batcheleder does not want Tim Grendell. Bill Batchelder will probablly be replacing carpet bagger Matt Dolan with an Republican Party stalwart, Richard Hollington, from Hunting Valley.

Tim Grendell is trying to Leave us
State Senator Tim Grendell is lobbying Ohio House Representative Minority Leader Bill Batchelder to take the State Representative seat, in Ohio's 98th House District, vacated today by carpet bagger Matt Dolan. Matt Dolan resigned from the Ohio House, the 98th district's seat, today in order to move to Cuyahoga County's Chagrin Falls; Dolan wants to be Cuyahoga County Executive.
Sources tells us Sen. Grendell, who represents Ohio's 18th Senate District, is lobbying Senate President Bill Harris to appoint his wife Judge Dianne Grendell to the Senate Seat he would vacate if appointed to Dolan's seat.
Why all the shell games with the Grendell's? Well...Sen Grendell is term limited out in two years...but, if appointed to the Ohio House seat he could run for four more terms...four more terms of Tim Grendell.
Don't get me wrong...I agree with a lot of Sen. Grendell's votes and the the stands he takes...I really do. But, does Sen. Grendell think Geauga County can't live without him?

Don't get me wrong...I agree with a lot of Sen. Grendell's votes and the the stands he takes...I really do. But, does Sen. Grendell think Geauga County can't live without him?

Tim Grendell and State Senators May have to Work on Christmas
Governor Strickland is threatening to keep Ohio's Senate in Session by proclamation, allowed by State Constitution, in order to force a budget compromise on a $851 million budget shortfall: EVEN ON CHRISTMAS!

Governor Strickland has BADLY,BADLY, BADLY bungled the State budget for 2010: video lottery terminals fell through, less stimulus money than bloated State Government needed came through, so now the Governor's fix is raise taxes 4.2% for the next year.
To be fair, Stickland proposed and Ohio's Legislature agreed to suspend the 4.2% income tax cut for this year that was signed into law a few years ago.
Both Loraine Fende and Mark Schneider, the State Representatives for Lake county, agreed with the Governor and voted to raise your taxes.
Ohio's Senate is NOT going along with the plan, YET.
Will Tim Grendell and other State Senator's defend our pocket books and say "no" to the tax hike?

Update: State Gov't trying to Seize More of Your Money: Form a Line!
Yesterday we discussed how our two State Representatives in Lake County voted to suspend our 4.2% income decrease.
How will the State Senator, Tim Grendell, that represents Lake County vote?
The Cleveland Plain Dealer covers a story detailing recent wrangling over this matter in the Ohio Senate, here.
Knowing that republicans, some in an election year, like to bellow from the roof tops about keeping taxes low...I thought this issue would never make it to a vote! I am shocked.
Anyhow, the Ohio House put a provision in their version of the bill to lower salary of State Wide Elected Officials by %4.2 where permitted by the State Constitution. The Senate version of the bill strips the pay cut out and makes a separate bill: Senate bill 209.
In order for the bill to pass five republican state senators would have to break with caucus and join the twelve democrats.
I don't think this is likely.
