Editorial: Pension funds can spend less on travel - The News-Herald Opinion : Breaking news coverage for Northern Ohio

Even a blind squirrel finds nut once in a while. Or, even a broken clock is right twice a day.

You get the idea.

The linked article is an opinion piece from the News-Herald, which is hand wringing about those out-of-control public pension funds in Ohio. To little, too late News-Herald. Everyone was talking about this months ago!

The problems is that the News-Herald supports EVERY levy, tax increase, money grab, etc. The News-Herald lacks the credibility to talk about cost cutting and reigning in spending.

We have said it before, and we will say it again: The News-Herald is the defacto public relations firm for Lake County entities wishing to raise taxes. No objectivity. None. Notta.

  1. The NH also has dropped the ball on examining all of the public entities in Lake County. How about those pickups on the pickup for public schools and MRDD? Check into Perry Schools and the tax-raising MRDD.
How about all of the public employees who still pay a pittance for their healthcare and their retirement?

This is one of the issues that is fueling the Tea Party movement nationwide. Anyone who doesn't see that is either ignorant, naive or blind and deaf.

The saying goes that if it aint't broke don't fix it. Well, government at all levels is broke. The real hope & change that's sweeping the nation will be felt at the local level. Public officials will be forced to make hard choices.

  2. I believe you are spot on. In my opinion, the News-Herald is generally a worthless rag. I believe they kiss public officials backsides and never question them. I can't tell you how many times I have tried to get them to write a critical article based on information I have learned. They ignore you.

On a side note. This is not untypical. Look at how Karl Rove dismembered the new Republican U.S. Senate candidate from Deleware on Hannity last night - despite Hannity supporting her. This was because she wasn't the establishment candidate. The establishment attacks her personally - not what she stands for. Typical.

Keep up the good work with your blog. I am an elected public official. Many of us with our eyes open see what you see. We need people who is not afraid of rocking the boat - and more blogs like yours.

  3. Dear Anonymous elected Public Official:

Thank-you for your kind words! We seriously appreciate the fact that you read, comment, and especially a kind comment. We are so/too used to nasty diatribes from elected officials, their surrogates, their paid consultants (who are sometimes elected officials, News-Herald employees (e.g. the publisher), police officers in Willoughby Hills, ..., our congressman's office, ... and the band marches on.

We hope you see that we are equal opportunity in who we criticize, that is, we unload on republicans and democrats ALMOST equally. You will see a common theme is our criticism of taxation and integrity.

Anyhow, keep reading. Bear with us. This work takes a lot out of us.
